I have been planning for a while now to create a small instruction book to go along with my final product. This is to help the user to understand the products initial operation, there after the booklet can be discarded and the user can develop their own process. I decided that I would like to try and develop a logo to be placed on the front cover to give the product an identity. I went through many interactions of designs and conducted a great deal of desk research to try and gain some inspiration. After a period of development I created something that I could feel happy with using. I found that the book “The Brand Gap” by Marty Neumieier was a great help, it allowed me to understand what sort of mind-set was needed for brand development.
I first wrote down the brand values that the “Essence of Tea” presents and used them to establish a theme. Meditation seemed to be an effective state to use and so I drew a basic Buddha outline, this can be seen in the logo design below. I also implemented a sort of hand done visulaisation to keep to the handmade feel of the whole product. I have decided to not include this logo on my final, as I believe it puts across the point that the “essence of Tea” has a personality already. What I actually want to show is that the product will grow and change with the way that the user interacts with it. I have instead decided to implement the use of a motif; I hope that this will add an attractive detail without taking away from the actual product. The other option is that I don’t include anything but a title of the cover, to remove any distraction.
